coming together
a moment of joy and connection
What I love about November is clearing out my studio and making space for conversations, and moments of thoughtfulness. The annual Eastside Culture Crawl brings out thousands of art lovers to studios across East Vancouver. I feel lucky to be a part of it.
A smile, a conversation, a little warmth reminds me how we are all connected. Seeing how artists work, wandering into their spaces, their thoughts and processes can also be a glimpse at a new perspective. While I feel very unprepared this year, I am looking forward to all of the interesting people and conversations that are certain to find me.
I have some ideas for things to share, new and old, but to be honest it will be a surprise to you and me how it all unfolds. So no sneak peeks this year! I do know that I will have photograms, prints, and weavings with more of a focus on how these practices connect.
If you’re in my part of the world it would be lovely to see you in studio 10E at Eastside Atelier on Friday, November 14 from 5-8pm for our building preview event or during the Culture Crawl November 20-23.
Thursday and Friday 5-10pm
Saturday and Sunday from 11am-6pm
Find me at 1310 William street at the very end of the hall if you follow the yellow line on the floor at the top of the stairs. If you’ve been in the building before you’ll notice some new way finding signage to help you as well.
Instead of a playlist this month I’ll leave you with a repeat of a quote from a November 2024 newsletter. I had forgotten about how much I loved this book.
Lean days, little hanging to them apart from long shadows and stubborn leaves, days that become hard to measure once November arrives. Yet this has always been my favourite time of year, when a certain solitude floats through the air and from one moment to the next everything falls silent, apart from the graffiti.

Here’s an update of a map I made a few years ago with some of my favourite places to visit in the neighbourhood. The dark blue indicates a studio and the light blue indicates a snack spot. My studio is number three on the map.
Highly recommend visiting a couple of my pals. Shirley Wiebe’s beautiful studio is right around the corner from mine and you can find Richelle Greabeiel and her wonderful installations at August Studios.
There are many, many more studios to see. I would love to visit Aimée Henny Brown and Vanessa Lam at the Arts Factory. In Chinatown you can find Corrina Hammond and many others.
